Banner Advertising Online Trends
Internet marketing is an industry that people can either love or hate. For Internet businesspersons who need the online arena to advertise their products and services, Internet marketing techniques are never too hard-selling or few; in fact, the more marketing that happens, the better a business appears. On the other hand, Internet users would rather have websites that load faster, with all the information they need, but without the ads, pop-ups, or pop-unders that make Internet surfing such a hassle.
Online ads, however, have fast become a revenue source for enterprising online business owners who know how to tailor their websites to fit the needs of their markets. For instance, Google AdSense’s ad program can allow webmasters to earn commissions whenever their website visitors click on an AdSense advertisement. Other affiliate programs can issue commissions when website visitors buy products from the site advertised in the affiliate program. There are many ways to earn money through online ads, which can make online ad design a priority for many Internet marketers.
In general, online ads can come in the form of text, simple links, or banner ads. And, in general, there are certain shapes and colors that appeal to a large number of people. According to Site Point observers, organic shapes and curves, which include circles or arcs, appeal to a large number of people. This might be attributed to the balance that curves and arcs give to a website, which, in general, can be highly angular due to text and boxes. Advertisements also tend to employ orange and blue, which, in line with neutral black and white, can make advertisements stand out.
Internet marketing, with its base in technology and computers, can appear alienating to many new users who are afraid to use the World Wide Web, and who might not know the difference between a search engine and a blog. Marketing products and services over the Internet, therefore, should involve showing people that a company cares; companies can carry this out through Internet marketing by showing actual people in their advertisements.
If some advertisements show images, they will now eschew showing off products and instead focus on their customers, or people who are in their target market. Such customers will often appear happy, as though to show that having the product or availing of the service makes them feel happy and contented. This appearance of customers can greatly enhance the look of an advertisement, as it can make the ad, and its website, appear customer friendly as well.
Many advertisements also show stock footage, mostly from Getty Images or other popular stock footage sites. This does away with exclusive photo shoots for advertisements, which can cost Internet advertisers more money.
The wording on advertisements will usually make use of words that appeal to Internet consumers. First, advertisements can promise that the consumer can get something for free. Second, advertisements can offer a product or service that will help the customer save money. Third, and last, advertisements can offer a product or service that will make its customer’s lives easier. Although the third is a long shot for many products and services, the promise of disentangling this highly wired world can be attractive for many web users.
This strength of graphics makes banner ads popular. Many links, text advertisements, and affiliate programs cannot be manipulated to include graphics. Most of these advertisements will also be small and difficult to notice. A banner ad gives an advertiser more leeway to add graphics and animation, making the advertisement even more attractive.
Today’s banner ads do not only have the graphics and wording mentioned, but they are also interactive. Some ads will ask you to enter your birth date, click on a choice of answers to an answer, or play a short game, such as shooting a ball into a hole or pinning a tail onto a donkey. Such banner ads will attract even more people, especially with today’s Web 2.0 paradigm, which shows how extreme interactivity online is the way to go.
Banner ads also come in different sizes, and can be positioned both vertically and horizontally. Most of these ads also have the same proportions allotted for picture and advertising. About two thirds of the advertisement will have a picture along with the principal points about the advertisement, while the last third will have a few buttons and some remaining quotes or writing on the product or service. Most of these texts will also use sans-serif fonts, as these can appear bolder and stronger.
Banner ads are still growing so there will be more changes in years to come, as tastes change and markets evolve. No matter what the size, shape, color, or font, banner ads are important in maintaining a site’s popularity online.
